Melinda Lowry Anter (MELA) grew up in Utah and Colorado and has embraced a life of adventure that has taken her to Chicago, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, before settling in Florida, which she now calls home. Her passion for art ignited in childhood as she spent hours drawing animals, captivated by their forms and emotions. This early love of creativity led her to study Illustration at Brigham Young University and Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Salt Lake City, where she refined her technical skills and expanded her artistic perspective.
Her work is a testament to the evolution of an artist—moving from detailed realism to bold abstraction, from pencil sketches to textured paintings, and from digital photography to graphic design. Each piece reflects her curiosity and dedication to exploring new techniques and ideas, resulting in art that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Melinda’s goal is to take viewers on a journey through her work, offering them a chance to see the world in ways they might not have considered before. Her paintings are not just visual expressions but invitations to explore emotion, transformation, and perspective. Whether through a vibrant, colorful mask or a carefully layered canvas, she strives to create pieces that inspire reflection, connection, and discovery.
"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see” - Edgar Degas

Although art has always been her passion, she initially pursued a career in sales and marketing, working for diverse companies—from an advertising agency in Chicago to a locum tenens facility in Salt Lake City, where she placed doctors in assignments across New Zealand.
After 15 years in the corporate world, her creative drive became impossible to ignore, and she seized the opportunity to return to college to study graphic design.
Combining the skills she had always dreamed of mastering, she co-founded an online business with her sisters, Moxibod.com, a workout apparel company. Through this venture, she refined her graphic design, photography, and web skills. But it was when she picked up a paintbrush again that her creativity truly took flight. Once the ideas started flowing, there was no stopping them—and she hasn’t stopped painting since.

My medium of choice is acrylic paint, giving me the freedom to create multiple layers that dry quickly and bring rich textures to the canvas. This approach allows me to experiment with depth, dimension, and dynamic contrasts, infusing each piece with inspired paint drips, brush strokes and paint rolling. My work focus on themes of beauty, transformation, and emotional connection, with the eyes as a focal point—windows into the soul—inviting viewers to find their own stories within the art.
See the forest for the trees: I've often found myself fixating on the details of a painting, losing sight of the bigger picture—and I’ve realized this mirrors life itself. When we’re surrounded by the "trees," caught in the closeness of daily challenges and emotions, it’s easy to miss the beauty of the "forest." By stepping back and shifting our perspective, we can see the full landscape, appreciating the harmony and wonder that might otherwise have been missed.
