A Tribute to My Father’s Love and Guidance
Ever since I was a little girl, my dad was my biggest fan. He was more than just a supporter of my art; he was my anchor, my critic, my guiding light. When an eye was off, or something in a piece didn’t feel quite right, he had this incredible ability to gently shift my perspective and help me see the art as it was meant to be. He taught me to trust my instincts, move forward boldly, and embrace the entrepreneurial spirit he so deeply inspired in me.
On February 22, 2023, my dad passed away after a five-year battle with cancer. His loss left an ache I couldn’t put into words. I felt the emptiness of not being able to hear his voice, give him a hug, share my wins, or seek his advice. But in the quiet moments, I began to realize something profound—he hasn’t truly left.
He sees all my art now. Every canvas, every color, every idea is touched by his presence. He inspires my steps, whispers encouragement in ways I can feel but can’t always explain, and guides me more intimately than ever before. He is closer now, not bound by a physical form, but free and limitless.
The Story Behind This Artwork
After my father’s funeral in 2023, I painted Released. This piece is a tribute to him—a representation of his transition. The red-tail hawk symbolizes his spirit, soaring free and unburdened, while the skull represents the broken body he left behind. Watching him endure the trials of cancer was one of the hardest experiences of my life. There’s a bittersweet relief in knowing he’s free from pain, but it comes with the heartache of not having him here in the physical.
This artwork embodies both the sorrow and the beauty of letting go, the love that endures, and the freedom that comes with release. It is a reminder that while we may grieve, the connections we share with our loved ones never fade. They live on in our hearts, in our dreams, and, for me, in every stroke of my brush.
